Pohang: One person died and two others were severely injured in a fire presumed to have been started by a butane gas explosion in an apartment building in the southeastern city of Pohang on Monday, officials said. The incident resulted in the death of a 60-year-old man and left his two sons, aged 21 and 24, with severe burns.

According to Yonhap News Agency, police reported receiving a call indicating that the father was attempting to start a fire by pouring out oil and igniting butane gas. The two sons, who are currently too badly injured to provide an account of the incident, are receiving medical treatment for their injuries.

The fire began at 11:33 a.m., and the large flames were extinguished by 11:51 a.m. Approximately a dozen other residents inhaled smoke, with one individual requiring hospitalization for further care.
