P48-M Flood Control Project in Agusan Norte Completed.

BUTUAN: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 13 (Caraga Region) has announced the completion of a PHP48.2 million flood control project in Santiago, Agusan del Norte. This initiative aims to safeguard residents and agricultural areas from the impacts of severe flooding.

According to Philippines News Agency, the project extends 620 meters along the Aciga River and was carried out by the Agusan del Norte Engineering District, with construction commencing in February 2024. The department stated that this flood control project is essential for protecting the central area of Santiago town from potential flash floods, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.

The newly constructed flood wall is designed to prevent floodwaters from causing damage to farmland and the town’s central zones, thereby enhancing the resilience of the community. Last month, DPWH-13 also completed two additional flood control projects in Santiago. These include a 390-meter concrete dike along the Aciga River from Poblaci
on 1 to the Kalinawan River in La Paz, with a cost of PHP144.7 million, and a 275-meter structure in Poblacion valued at PHP125.4 million.

The department emphasized that these projects collectively bolster Santiago’s flood defenses, with the objective of minimizing risks to both lives and livelihoods in the region.
