P8.4 Million Aid Distributed to Storm Victims in Western Visayas


ILOILO CITY: Relief efforts for families affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, also known as Trami, in the Western Visayas region have surpassed PHP8.4 million, as detailed in a report from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

According to Philippines News Agency, the DSWD has provided PHP7.17 million in family food packs and non-food items, while local government units (LGUs) contributed assistance amounting to PHP1.24 million. The combined aid consists of 7,877 family food packs and 282 non-food items. DSWD Regional Director Arwin Razo stated the agency’s commitment to addressing the needs of affected families and collaborating with LGUs to optimize resources.

The current distribution of aid has reached 10 LGUs in Aklan, nine in Antique, three in Capiz, two in Guimaras, 21 in Iloilo, including Iloilo City, and 18 in Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City. DSWD-Western Visayas has recorded 38,659 families, or 161,283 individuals, impacted by the storm across 458 villages in 62
LGUs within the region.

The storm has resulted in damage to 1,446 houses, with 124 completely destroyed and 1,322 partially damaged. Presently, 1,319 families, comprising 4,633 individuals, are taking refuge in 98 evacuation centers, while 951 families, or 3,514 individuals, have sought shelter with friends or relatives.

The DSWD has assured that it has adequate stocks and standby funds amounting to PHP144.19 million. This includes 108,728 family food packs valued at PHP83.96 million, 34,742 non-food items worth PHP57.22 million, and a PHP3 million standby fund.
