Pangasinan Infrastructure Boost: DPWH Completes P41.2-M Drainage and Road Widening Project

MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – In a significant development for San Carlos City, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has announced the completion of a PHP41.2 million drainage and road widening project, set to mitigate flooding issues and enhance vehicular travel.

According to Philippines News Agency, DPWH Ilocos Region information officer Esperanza Tinaza detailed that the project encompasses a 3.05-meter-wide road widening and a 1.4-meter-wide concrete drainage system along the Villasis-Malasiqui-San Carlos Road in Barangay Coliling. The infrastructure spans almost 1.03 kilometers, promising extensive benefits not just for San Carlos City residents but also for neighboring communities. The initiative aims to significantly curb water damage risks and health hazards such as disease spread by insects due to stagnant water. The road widening aspect of the project is poised to improve traffic flow considerably, cutting down travel time to key city locations by up to 15 minutes during peak periods, a substantial decrease from the prior 20 to 25 minutes.

The project, which commenced on February 6 of this year and wrapped up on August 15, was financed through the current year’s national budget. This development is expected to provide long-term economic and safety benefits to the region, reinforcing its infrastructure against natural elements and streamlining transportation to and from the city’s central hubs.
