Pangasinan Prepares for Tropical Depression Gener with Blue Alert


MALASIQUI, Pangasinan — The province of Pangasinan declared a blue alert status on Monday as Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was raised due to the approach of Tropical Depression Gener.



According to Philippines News Agency, assistant director of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), 60 percent of their personnel are now on standby, and rescue equipment has been prepositioned. Flores stated in a phone interview that the PDRRMO has already coordinated with local government units and warned fisherfolk not to set sail. The office is closely monitoring the Marusay River in Calasiao, which remains above normal levels and poses a flooding risk as the storm and the southwest monsoon are expected to bring heavy rain. Pangasinan Governor Ramon Guico III has suspended classes in all public and private schools for Tuesday. Tropical Depression Gener is projected to make landfall in Isabela or Aurora and exit via Pangasinan or La Union.
