Pangasinan Responds to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine with Aid for 1,300 Evacuated Families


PANGASINAN: Approximately 1,300 families, comprising 4,495 individuals, in Pangasinan have received emergency assistance after evacuating due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, internationally known as Trami. The evacuees have been provided with meals and hygiene kits as part of the response efforts.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported that over 13,020 family food packs are available, each containing two kilos of rice, three canned goods, and coffee sachets. An additional 299 family food packs from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines are also in reserve. Hygiene kits include essential items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, alcohol, hand soap, detergent, tissue, and towels.

The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office has also made available various food and non-food items, including mats, tents, bottled water, and blankets. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) maintains a stoc
kpile of 7,954 family food packs and 960 other food and non-food items at its satellite office in Pangasinan for potential further assistance.

PDRRMO head Rhodyn Luchinvar Oro reported that the storm has affected 36,185 families, or 150,469 individuals, across 15 municipalities and cities within the province. Flooding was reported in 15 villages across 10 municipalities, while storm surges affected 33 villages in two cities and seven municipalities.

Infrastructure has been significantly impacted, with some roads passable only to light vehicles and others entirely impassable. Power interruptions are affecting 60 villages, and 42 houses have been reported damaged. The initial assessment estimates agricultural damage at PHP28.59 million and infrastructure damage at PHP110.8 million. No casualties have been reported.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 remains in effect for the province, alongside a storm surge advisory, as Kristine exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
