Pangasinan to Supply Over 2 Million Kilograms of Salt Fertilizer to Coco Farmers Nationwide

MALASIQUI—The Pangasinan Salt Center is set to deliver 2 million kilograms of agricultural-grade salt fertilizer to various regions across the Philippines, including Albay, Iloilo, Cebu, Leyte, and Davao. This large-scale distribution is being managed through a private contractor, as confirmed by Assistant Provincial Agriculturist Nestor Batalla in a phone interview with the Philippine News Agency on Thursday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the provincial government-managed salt farm in Barangay Zaragosa, Bolinao, has already supplied 4,180 bags of 50-kilogram salt fertilizer to the Ilocos, Cagayan, and Central Luzon regions this year through the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA). He highlighted that the salt produced by the farm meets the PCA’s requirements, with a 55 percent sodium chloride content and 12 percent moisture content.

Since the farm began operating under provincial government management in November last year, it has produced approximately 6 million kilograms of salt. The production season, which was favorable due to the hot weather, will resume in October. The Pangasinan Salt Center was established to support President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s “Philippine Salt Industry Development Act,” aiming to revitalize the local salt industry and reduce the country’s dependency on imported salt, which currently accounts for 93 percent of the national supply.
