PBA Comments on John Amores’ Attempted Murder Case

Lumban, Laguna: The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) expressed disappointment over the involvement of NorthPort guard John Amores in an alleged attempted murder case. During a statement given before the quarterfinal games at Ninoy Aquino Stadium, PBA commissioner Willie Marcial addressed the incident, where Amores reportedly shot Lee Cacalda along Manila East Road, stating that the league would allow police investigations to proceed before taking any action.

According to Philippines News Agency, the investigation will be based on evidence collected, including CCTV footage and witness testimonies. The incident reportedly stemmed from a disagreement during a pickup game involving a PHP4,000 bet. Tensions escalated, leading to the shooting.

Amores and his younger brother surrendered to authorities early Thursday after receiving threats from Cacalda’s camp. The brothers underwent legal proceedings, including a preliminary inquest and paraffin tests, with results expected by Friday morning. They face charges of attempted murder, with potential bail set between PHP24,000 and PHP200,000.
