PBBM Commends Local Governments for Response to Tropical Storm Kristine


MANILA: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed his sympathy for those affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine and commended local government units for their vital role in ensuring public safety during the storm’s impact. He assured that his administration is dedicated to aiding recovery efforts.

According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos, speaking at Malacañan Palace, praised the resilience and proactive measures of local government units, acknowledging their critical function as first responders. He emphasized the importance of their immediate actions in providing relief, rescue, and assistance to those affected by the storm.

President Marcos highlighted that the national government maintains close coordination with local government units to identify and address the most critical areas impacted by the storm. He noted the increasing frequency and intensity of weather disturbances due to climate change, underscoring the need for continued vigilance and support.

In response to the storm,
Marcos detailed the deployment of resources, including the arrival of a C-130 aircraft at Bicol International Airport. The aircraft delivered personnel and equipment such as satellite communication tools, generator sets, and water filtration units to the Bicol Region. Additionally, the 525th Engineer Combat Battalion and 20 search and rescue operators, along with multiple rescue boats, have been dispatched. Black Hawk helicopters are also attempting operations in Legazpi and Naga, utilizing a brief favorable weather window for air operations.

The President reiterated the government’s commitment to ongoing assistance efforts, acknowledging the challenges posed by Tropical Storm Kristine as it continues to affect the region.
