SINGAPORE: The Philippines has reached an agreement with the United States and Japan to cooperate in enhancing cyber and digital resilience, focusing on strengthening cybersecurity and improving digital infrastructure. This collaboration was formalized during the US-Japan-Philippines Trilateral Cyber and Digital Dialogue, held alongside the 9th Singapore International Cyber Week.
According to Philippines News Agency, the trilateral dialogue saw participation from key officials including Jeffrey Ian Dy, Information and Communications Technology Undersecretary for Infostructure Management, Cybersecurity, and Upskilling from the Philippines; Nathaniel Fick, US Ambassador at Large for Cyberspace and Digital Policy; and Yukio Saita, Japan’s Deputy Assistant Minister for Cyber Security and Information Technology Management. These leaders discussed various aspects of cyberspace cooperation, such as civilian cybersecurity capacity building, workforce development, maritime cybersecurity, and information sharing.
The
dialogue emphasized the nations’ commitment to enhancing international cyberspace stability, data security, privacy, and building cyber and digital capacities in the region. The collaboration aims to integrate cybersecurity with sustainable development and technology to stimulate economic growth and improve citizens’ livelihoods in the participating countries.
As part of the discussions, the countries explored opportunities to facilitate the trusted flow of data across borders and pledged to advance the Global Cross-Border Privacy Rules (CBPR) Forum. Established in 2022, the Global CBPR Forum builds upon the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation CBPR system, aiming to ensure a free flow of data alongside effective data protection and privacy measures.
This trilateral dialogue follows a similar bilateral initiative between the Philippines and the US in July, which focused on advancing an open, interoperable, reliable, and secure information and communication technologies ecosystem.
