Philippine DOJ States Government Cannot Guarantee Quiboloy’s Non-Extradition

QUEZON CITY — The Department of Justice (DOJ) of the Philippines emphasized on Saturday that it cannot influence the potential extradition of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), to the United States. The statement comes amid Quiboloy’s request for a guarantee from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. that he would not be extradited to face charges in the US, where he is indicted for conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking and related offenses.

According to Philippines News Agency, during the Saturday News Forum in Quezon City, the government cannot issue such a guarantee as it would conflict with the Philippines’ international legal obligations. “No one in government can give that guarantee,” Vasquez stated, pointing out that all treaties ratified by the Senate carry the force of law and must be upheld. He underscored the importance of not reneging on international obligations for the sake of an individual.

Vasquez also clarified that the US has not yet requested Quiboloy’s extradition. Should such a request be made, the decision on extradition would be determined by the court handling Quiboloy’s case. He assured that the DOJ, which handles extradition requests, would treat Quiboloy’s case fairly, reflecting confidence in the judicial process. “The wheel of justice is working perfectly fine. It may be grinding slowly but it does work,” he commented.

The undersecretary encouraged Quiboloy to present his evidence and defend himself in court, assuring him of a fair and impartial trial. Quiboloy faces charges under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act and Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act, and is also listed on the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s wanted list.

In related developments, police are currently conducting a search at the KOJC compound in Davao City, where Quiboloy is believed to be hiding.
