Philippines Reacts to Bombing of UAE Ambassador’s Residence in Sudan

MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) of the Philippines has publicly voiced its concerns regarding a recent bombing at the residence of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ambassador in Khartoum, Sudan.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DFA issued a statement on Wednesday condemning the attack. “We deeply regret the recent bombing attack on the residence of the UAE Ambassador in Khartoum, Sudan,” the statement read. The DFA urged all parties to respect the safety of diplomatic premises, aligning with the principles laid out in the Vienna Conventions on diplomatic relations.

The incident, which was first reported by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, involved an aircraft belonging to the Sudanese army. The attack caused “extensive damage” to the ambassador’s residence, though the exact date of the incident was not specified by the UAE Ministry. In response to the attack, the UAE plans to file a formal complaint with the United Nations and other regional bodies, citing a “flagrant violation of the fundamental principle of the inviolability of diplomatic premises.”

The Sudanese army has denied these allegations, attributing the bombing instead to the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces, adding a layer of complexity and dispute over the incident.
