PHP2.4 Million Worth of Marijuana Plants Destroyed in Ilocos Sur


ILOCOS SUR – The Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) conducted a successful drug eradication operation in Ilocos Sur, resulting in the destruction of PHP2.4 million worth of marijuana plants.



According to Philippines News Agency, Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta announced that law enforcement officers uprooted approximately 12,000 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants over an area of 900 square meters at Mt. Bilis, Brgy. Licungan, Sugpon. The operation, which took place from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on August 30, however, did not lead to any arrests. In a related event on the same day, a buy-bust operation in Taytay, Rizal, led to the arrest of two drug suspects. The individuals, identified as Marop Zacarias Guiahod, 32, and Normina Gumaga Bacolong, 36, were apprehended in Brgy. Sta. Ana, where police seized about 500 grams of suspected shabu, valued at approximately PHP3.4 million.



The suspects are currently being held at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City, with drug charges pending.
