PHP49 Million Flood Control Project Completed in La Union to Mitigate La Niña Risks


MALASIQUI — A newly completed flood control structure worth PHP49 million is now safeguarding residents of Tubao town in La Union from potential flooding, particularly during the La Niña season.



According to Philippines News Agency, the information officer for the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Ilocos Region, the 574-meter-long and 4.2-meter-high structure along the Aringay River is crucial in preventing overflow that could damage nearby agricultural lands and residential areas. The project, funded under this year’s national budget, began on February 6 and was completed on May 5.



Tinaza highlighted the DPWH’s commitment to implementing similar infrastructure projects across the region to enhance resilience against natural disasters. The Aringay River, a critical confluence of several tributaries, has been a focal point for local authorities during periods of heavy rain and typhoons.
