PNP Anti-Drug Unit Reports PHP13.7 Billion in Narcotics Seized Under Current Administration


MANILA – The Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PNP DEG) has successfully confiscated narcotics valued at PHP13.7 billion since President Marcos took office, showcasing significant progress in the country’s ongoing fight against illegal drugs.



According to Philippines News Agency, PDEG chief Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta reported that from July 1, 2022, to October 7, 2024, the unit conducted 1,674 anti-drug operations, resulting in the arrest of 1,903 suspects. These efforts have led to the seizure of approximately 1,717.61 kilograms of shabu, valued at PHP11.67 billion, which represents the bulk of the drugs captured during this period. Additionally, law enforcement officers confiscated 2,152.20 kilograms of marijuana leaves and plants worth PHP1.83 billion, along with 48.7 kilograms of ketamine, estimated at PHP243.36 million.



Other substances seized included 0.58 kilograms of cocaine worth PHP3.07 million, 1,343 ecstasy tablets valued at PHP2.28 million, and 1.96 kilograms of kush marijuana, totaling PHP2.93 million. Matta emphasized that these figures underscore the administration’s robust stance on curtailing illegal drug activities across the nation.



Matta also highlighted the PDEG’s balanced approach to enforcement, which focuses on targeting high-value targets and dismantling drug networks while respecting human rights and ensuring community well-being. “As we target high-value individuals and identify drug sources, we remain dedicated to preserving life. Our efforts ensure the well-being and dignity of every member of the community. This commitment to a balanced approach highlights the PNP’s dedication to safeguarding public safety while upholding human rights,” he stated.



The PDEG chief praised the dedication of his team, which he credited with playing a pivotal role in the significant drug seizures. “As we pursue our anti-illegal drug campaign, our team works tirelessly to disrupt the networks that fuel this crisis. Every operation we undertake is a step toward a safer, drug-free community,” Matta remarked.
