PNP to File Sedition Charges Against KOJC Members After Davao Rally

Davao City – The Philippine National Police (PNP) is preparing to file charges of inciting to sedition against members of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) who participated in a disruptive rally during a police operation targeting the church’s leader, Apollo Quiboloy.

According to the Philippines News Agency, Police Regional Office-Davao Region (PRO-11) Director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, in a recent radio interview, confirmed that the sedition charges are being finalized against those involved in the rally that occurred at the onset of a police search within the KOJC compound in Davao City. “We have a list of those personalities. If I mention the names, actually you know them. There are more than ten,” Torre stated.

The incident in question took place on the night of August 25, when KOJC members used vehicles and heavy equipment to block the national highway in front of their 30-hectare compound, protesting alleged police abuses. This confrontation resulted in injuries to at least six police officers.

Torre also revealed that he is currently in Metro Manila attending a budget hearing at the House of Representatives but plans to file the charges upon his return to Davao City later this week.

Additionally, Torre disclosed unsettling details about the training activities within the KOJC, particularly concerning a group known as Angels of Death. Some trainers of this purported private army are PNP officers. “It’s sad to know and it’s a shame but the PNP is among those training them. For example, basic life support, things like that, because it was formed as a legitimate group. They have a formal name,” he explained.

The ongoing legal troubles for Quiboloy include his recent arrest following allegations of qualified human trafficking and a child sexual abuse case, prompting intensive police efforts to apprehend his associates who allegedly aided his evasion from the law. PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil has initiated a rigorous operation against these individuals, forming specialized teams to ensure thorough and lawful enforcement.

These developments come as the Philippine Army expressed readiness to assist the PNP in investigating the involvement of reservists and militiamen in the Angels of Death, with the aim of ensuring comprehensive accountability and justice in this high-profile case.
