BULUAN, Maguindanao del Sur—Authorities in Maguindanao del Sur have initiated a manhunt for two gunmen responsible for the killing of Buluan Councilor Mohammad Usman Alamada, who was fatally shot on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Philippines News Agency, Colonel Ruel Sermese, the provincial director of Maguindanao del Sur police, confirmed the attack and has condemned the violent act. In response to the incident, Sermese has ordered the creation of a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) aimed at expediting the investigation and apprehending those responsible for Alamada’s death. “We strongly condemn the murder of Councilor Alamada,” Sermese stated, expressing a firm commitment to justice.

The attack occurred while Alamada and a companion were standing in front of a roadside restaurant near the Buluan District Hospital in Barangay Poblacion. The assailants, who remain unidentified, fled the scene on a motorbike shortly after the shooting at around 3 p.m. Sermese urged the community to assist the police by providing any relevant information that could lead to the swift resolution of the case.

The motive for the killing remains unclear, and police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the councilor’s murder. Buluan Mayor Babydats Mangudadatu also spoke out against the crime, highlighting Alamada’s role as a dedicated public servant and asserting that the local government is working closely with law enforcement to solve the case and ensure justice. “To the perpetrators: Know that the law will catch up with you, and the punishment will be severe,” Mangudadatu warned.
