President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. Extends Condolences Following Execution of Filipino in Saudi Arabia

MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed his condolences to the family of a Filipino executed in Saudi Arabia:President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed his condolences to the family of a Filipino executed in Saudi Arabia, affirming that the government had exhausted all possible legal avenues to contest the execution. The president made these remarks during a media interview prior to his departure for Laos, highlighting the government’s commitment to support the family in repatriating the remains.

According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos described the execution as a “terrible tragedy” and acknowledged the limited options available to intervene in the case. “Little we had left to do. We had very few options left. We tried everything and for many years,” Marcos stated. He assured the family of the deceased that their prayers were with them and promised government assistance in handling the logistics of repatriation. “There is nothing that one can do to make it whole, but we will do
our best,” he added.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported that the Filipino, whose identity has not been disclosed, was executed on October 5 for the murder of a Saudi national. The DFA has chosen to withhold further details of the case in respect to the family’s wishes.

President Marcos also noted that the process of repatriating overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who die abroad is well-established, suggesting that bringing back their compatriot’s remains should not encounter obstacles. “We’ll see what they need. But for someone who dies abroad, an OFW, there are many – we have many procedures for that to bring them back home. So, I don’t think that will be a problem,” he explained.
