Manila: The camp of Apollo Quiboloy has decided not to pursue the transfer of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader from the Pasig City Jail to the Philippine National Police (PNP) custodial facility in Camp Crame.
According to Philippines News Agency, lawyer Israelito Torreon acknowledged that their chances of securing a transfer are slim. In a recent interview, Torreon mentioned, “Knowing that, you know, the political air is not for us, it might be useless for us to insist on what we think is right for him, so might as well go with the tide and persevere and overcome.” This statement was made after a preliminary investigation into the numerous charges pending before prosecutors involving Quiboloy and his co-accused.
Torreon emphasized concerns over Quiboloy’s security, stating, “Kasi (Because) we might be wasting a lot of papers if we insist on our ano sana. Kasi ang sa amin naman ‘yung security niya (request. Because on our part, it’s for his security), we felt before that he would be more secure in
Camp Crame given the security threats against him.” Torreon was present at the Department of Justice for the continuation of the preliminary investigation on the malicious mischief complaint filed by former president Rodrigo Duterte, as the administrator of the KOJC properties, against former Interior and Local Government secretary Benhur Abalos and Philippine National Police chief Gen. Rommel Marbil.
Prosecutors have given Torreon until Dec. 16 to file their reply affidavit to the counter-affidavit filed by Abalos, Marbil, and other respondents. Meanwhile, Torreon noted that other KOJC lawyers would be submitting counter-affidavits to the charges of illegal assembly, obstruction of justice, and other cases filed by the government against church members.
