Rains Persist in Parts of Luzon Due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine’s Trough


MANILA: The trough of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, known internationally as Trami, continues to impact parts of Luzon with rains, even as the storm remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, the weather bureau reported on Saturday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a 4 a.m. bulletin indicating that Kristine’s trough is causing cloudy skies along with scattered rains and thunderstorms across Occidental Mindoro and Palawan. At 3 a.m., Kristine was located 630 kilometers west of Bacnotan, La Union, with maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts reaching up to 115 kilometers per hour as it moves westward at 20 kilometers per hour.

The southwesterly wind flow is expected to bring similar weather conditions to the Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Northern Mindanao. Meanwhile, Metro Manila and other regions of the country are likely to encounter partly cloudy to clo
udy skies accompanied by isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized weather disturbances.

Additionally, Tropical Storm Kong-Rey, situated 1,825 kilometers east of Central Luzon outside the PAR as of 3 a.m., is observed to have maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near its center and gustiness reaching up to 80 kilometers per hour as it proceeds northwestward at 35 kilometers per hour. Luzon will continue to experience moderate to strong winds and rough seas, while the Visayas and Mindanao are expected to have slight to moderate winds and moderate to rough seas.
