Ruling Party in South Korea Condemns North Korea’s Deployment of Troops to Russia

SEOUL: The ruling People Power Party (PPP) in South Korea has issued a strong condemnation of North Korea’s decision to send troops to Russia in support of its ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The party, expressing significant concerns over the deepening military ties between Pyongyang and Moscow, has pledged to pursue a parliamentary resolution to officially oppose the move.

According to Yonhap News Agency, PPP floor leader Rep. Choo Kyung-ho articulated the party’s position during a press conference at the National Assembly. He emphasized the threat to global peace posed by North Korea’s military collaboration with Russia and urged Pyongyang to withdraw its troops from the Russia-Ukraine conflict immediately. Choo’s statements underscore the South Korean ruling party’s alarm over North Korea’s increasing military engagement with Russia, as confirmed by the National Intelligence Service.

Choo also indicated that the PPP intends to push for a parliamentary resolution that not only condemns North Korea’s troop d
eployment but also addresses other recent provocations by Pyongyang. These include the destruction of inter-Korean roads and the sending of balloons filled with trash into South Korean territory. The resolution is seen as a necessary measure to formally express opposition to North Korea’s actions and to call for a cessation of such activities.
