Russia Calls on South Korea to Cease Provocations Amid North Korea’s Drone Allegations

SEOUL: Russia has urged South Korea to halt any actions that could be viewed as provocative following allegations by North Korea that Seoul had sent unmanned drones over Pyongyang. This appeal comes amid heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula, with North Korea threatening severe repercussions.

According to Yonhap News Agency, North Korea accused South Korea last week of flying drones over Pyongyang on multiple occasions, including October 3 and twice more last week, to drop anti-North propaganda leaflets. South Korea’s Defense Minister, Kim Yong-hyun, responded to these accusations by stating that he could not confirm the claims made by the North.

Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman for Russia’s foreign ministry, emphasized the seriousness of the situation in a statement on Monday. Zakharova highlighted that the alleged actions by South Korea could escalate tensions and potentially lead to armed conflict in the region. She criticized the actions as violations of North Korea’s sovereignty and as interferen
ce in its internal affairs.

Zakharova also addressed the ideological aspects of the conflict, accusing South Korea of trying to impose its values on the North, which she claimed poses a security threat to Seoul itself.

The situation intensified as Kim Yo-jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, issued strong statements against South Korea. She accused the South of infiltrating North Korean airspace with drones, although she did not provide evidence to support her claims. In light of these allegations, South Korea’s defense ministry has issued a stern warning to the North, stating that any aggressive actions would lead to the end of its regime.

The ongoing conflict and exchange of threats between the two Koreas continue to contribute to the instability in the region.
