Secretary of SK Chairman’s Estranged Wife Sentenced to Five Years for Fraud


SEOUL: A court in Seoul has sentenced the secretary of Roh Soh-yeong, the estranged wife of SK Chairman Chey Tae-won, to a five-year prison term for fraud and related crimes. The secretary, identified by the surname Lee, was found guilty of defrauding Roh of approximately 2.1 billion won over a four-year period.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Seoul Western District Court determined that Lee, who began working at Art Center Nabi in 2019, engaged in fraudulent activities that included borrowing 438 million won in Roh’s name from financial institutions for personal expenses. Additionally, Lee was found guilty of siphoning 1.19 billion won from Roh’s bank account over the same period.

The charges against Lee also included deceiving another employee of Art Center Nabi into transferring 500 million won under the false pretense of covering legal costs. The court noted that Lee’s actions involved the forgery of private documents and described the methods employed in the crimes as particularly egregious.

Roh,
who is the daughter of the late former President Roh Tae-woo, is currently involved in divorce proceedings with Chey Tae-won, the head of SK Group.
