Seoul: A Seoul court has handed down a life sentence to a man for the murder of his ex-girlfriend and her daughter following a breakup. Park Hak-sun, aged 65, was convicted of fatally stabbing both women, who were in their 60s and 30s, at an office located in Seoul’s southern Gangnam district on May 30. The incident occurred after the woman expressed her desire to end their relationship.
According to Yonhap News Agency: Park was driven by resentment towards the victim’s family, who had disapproved of their relationship. The Seoul Central District Court highlighted that Park executed the crime with such speed, indicating a premeditated intent to kill. The court described the method of the crime as “excessively cruel,” dismissing any notion that it could have been accidental.
Despite the prosecution’s request for a death penalty, the court ruled it out, citing the absence of special circumstances that would warrant such a severe punishment. Throughout the trial, Park maintained that the crime was not premedit
ated and claimed it was an “accidental” act, but these assertions were rejected by the court.
