Seoul Records Historic 37th Tropical Night This Summer

SEOUL — Seoul has experienced a record-breaking 37th tropical night this summer, surpassing previous historical data and setting a new milestone in the city’s meteorological history.

According to Yonhap News Agency, this summer’s frequency of tropical nights—defined as nights when temperatures do not fall below 25 degrees Celsius from 6:01 p.m. to 9:00 a.m.—is the highest since records began in 1907. The previous record was set in 1994, with 36 tropical nights. Meanwhile, Jeju Island has also been significantly affected, experiencing its 40th consecutive tropical night, marking the second-longest streak ever recorded for the region.

The KMA has advised that the heat wave will persist, with temperatures expected to remain between 33-35 degrees Celsius into Sunday morning across most regions of the country.
