Quezon city: At least 4,102 individuals, comprising 1,022 families, have sought refuge in Quezon City’s 20 evacuation centers as of Thursday noon due to the adverse conditions brought on by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, internationally known as Trami.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (QCDRRMC) spokesperson, Peachy de Leon, confirmed that the city government initiated evacuations from high-risk areas starting Wednesday. The evacuees are being provided with hot meals and relief goods in the centers, with the City Health Department actively monitoring their health to prevent outbreaks of illness.

To ensure privacy, partition tents have been set up for each family in the evacuation centers, and portable toilets have been provided for sanitation. Data from the Emergency Operation Center of QCDRRMO indicates that District 4 is hosting the largest number of evacuees, with 537 families or 2,211 individuals. This is followed by District 1, which h
as accommodated 417 families across 11 centers, District 2 with 72 families or 267 individuals, and District 6 with 18 families or 65 individuals.

The Quezon City Health Department has distributed vitamins, supplements, and other medicines to those in the evacuation centers. Residents exposed to floodwaters have received free doxycycline to mitigate the risk of leptospirosis.

Additionally, the city’s Parks Development and Administration Department, supported by QCDRRMO, conducted debris clearing operations in areas affected by the storm, including Road 12 at the intersection with Road 2 in Project 8, Pook Arboretum at the UP Campus, and Zamboanga St. at its junction with Masbate St. in District 1.

De Leon has urged residents to remain vigilant and advised them to contact emergency services at 122 or through the Quezon City Facebook page for urgent assistance. She also emphasized the importance of staying informed about weather updates and following instructions from local barangay authorities.
