Son Heung-min Scores Twice as Tottenham Decisively Defeats Everton

LONDON — Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min marked a standout performance by scoring his first two goals of the new Premier League season, leading his team to a 4-0 victory over Everton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Son was instrumental in Spurs’ first victory of the season during their second match, following a 1-1 draw against Leicester City in their opener. The South Korean forward’s performance was a significant turnaround after he faced criticism for a lackluster display in the season’s first game. Son’s first goal came in the 25th minute, where he capitalized on a defensive error by Everton. He intercepted an attempted back pass to goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, maintaining his balance after a brief stumble to score into an empty net.

Cristian Romero extended Tottenham’s lead to 3-0, setting the stage for Son to complete his brace in the 77th minute. During a swift counterattack, Micky van de Ven assisted Son, who, from the left side of the box, drove in and scored with his left foot.

Son’s efforts earned him the Man of the Match title. He expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, emphasizing their clinical approach in crucial moments. “Last week, we were very disappointed. We dominated the game, but in the final third, we made some bad decisions,” Son reflected. “I am very pleased today that everybody was really clinical and made sure we made great decisions.”

With these two goals, Son ascends to 21st on the all-time Premier League scoring list, now tallying 122 career goals, closely trailing Raheem Sterling and Dwight Yorke.
