Son Heung-min Shines in Spurs’ Victory Against West Ham After Injury Layoff

LONDON: Tottenham Hotspur’s forward Son Heung-min marked his return to Premier League action with a goal, contributing significantly to his team’s 4-1 triumph over West Ham United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Son’s performance, highlighted by his third goal of the season, helped Spurs secure a crucial win as they climbed to sixth place in the league standings.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Son found the back of the net at the hour mark, following a swift counter-attack and a precise pass from teammate Pape Sarr. His left-footed strike from the left side of the penalty area added to Spurs’ tally, making it the fourth goal of the match. Son’s impact was further felt a minute later when he hit the right post with a right-footed attempt, narrowly missing another scoring opportunity.

Earlier in the match, Son played a significant role in an own goal by West Ham’s goalkeeper Alphonse Areola in the 55th minute, which extended Spurs’ lead to 3-1. This performance came after Son’s absence from the last three mat
ches due to a hamstring injury sustained during a UEFA Europa League match on September 26.

Son’s injury had also led to his exclusion from the South Korean national team for recent World Cup qualifying fixtures. Despite missing their captain, South Korea managed to secure victories against Jordan and Iraq, winning 2-0 and 3-2, respectively.

With this victory, Tottenham Hotspur now holds 13 points after eight matches, positioning them in sixth place. The outcome of the weekend matches involving the clubs above them will determine if they maintain their position in the league standings.
