South Korea and Czech Republic Forge Defense Policy Collaboration Channel

SEOUL: South Korea and the Czech Republic have agreed to establish a new working-level channel focused on defense policy, aiming to enhance cooperation in various strategic areas, according to an official announcement from South Korea’s defense ministry. The decision comes as both nations look to deepen their strategic partnership and expand collaboration in sectors such as cybersecurity and the arms industry.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the agreement was reached during a meeting between South Korea’s Vice Defense Minister Kim Seon-ho and his Czech counterpart, Daniel Blazkovec, held at the Czech Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces. The meeting underscored the growing ties between the two countries, which have recently expanded their cooperation beyond the nuclear energy sector to include defense and security.

Kim Seon-ho advocated for the Czech Republic’s engagement with South Korea’s arms industry, highlighting the broadening scope of the bilateral relationship. The discussions also led to a mutual
commitment to increase high-level exchanges and cooperation in areas such as cybersecurity.

Additionally, both officials condemned the intensifying military cooperation between North Korea and Russia, signaling a shared concern over regional security threats. This new defense policy channel is expected to serve as a platform for both nations to collaborate more closely on defense and security issues, fostering a stronger bilateral relationship.
