South Korea and Japan Diplomats Discuss Strengthening Ties and North Korean Threats


Seoul: Senior diplomats from South Korea and Japan convened to discuss enhancing bilateral relationships and addressing North Korea’s recent provocative actions, as reported by Seoul officials on Thursday. The meeting involved South Korea’s First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Hong-kyun and his Japanese counterpart, Vice Foreign Minister Masataka Okano, focusing on cooperation ahead of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations next year.

According to Yonhap News Agency, this meeting marked the first of its kind since Vice Minister Okano assumed his role under Japan’s newly appointed Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. The ministers committed to initiating various projects to commemorate the upcoming anniversary and emphasized the production of outcomes that would positively impact the citizens of both countries. The discussion underscored the necessity of continuous communication to address pending issues and further advance diplomatic ties.

The dialogue also covered the recent nuclear thre
ats and hostile activities directed at South Korea by North Korea. Both sides reinforced the importance of maintaining tight coordination with each other and with the United States, their mutual ally, to effectively respond to North Korea’s aggressive maneuvers.
