South Korea Continues Winning Streak in World Cup Qualifiers with Victory Over Iraq


YONGIN: South Korea secured their third consecutive win in the World Cup qualifying rounds, defeating Iraq 3-2 on Tuesday at Yongin Mireu Stadium. This victory places South Korea firmly at the top of Group B with 10 points, three points ahead of Iraq.

According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea’s football team showcased impressive form in their latest match against Iraq. Striker Oh Se-hun opened the scoring with his first international goal, followed by his substitute Oh Hyeon-gyu who netted a goal for the second consecutive game. Midfielder Lee Jae-sung also continued his scoring streak, contributing to the team’s third goal. After a slow start with a draw against Palestine, South Korea has bounced back by defeating Oman, Jordan, and now Iraq.

Iraq, who had not conceded any goals in their previous three matches, were on the defensive against South Korea’s strong offensive. Aymen Hussein and Ibrahim Bayesh were the scorers for Iraq, with Hussein executing a notable bicycle kick in the 50th minute and Bayes
h scoring during the second-half stoppage time, but their efforts were not enough to secure a win.

Looking ahead, South Korea will face Kuwait and Palestine in their next Group B matches on November 14 and November 19, respectively. The ongoing third round of the Asian World Cup qualification features three groups of six teams each, with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. South Korea has participated in every World Cup since 1986, underscoring their consistent presence in global football.
