South Korea Reports 14th Case of Lumpy Skin Disease in Cattle

SEOUL: South Korea has confirmed another case of lumpy skin disease (LSD) in cattle, increasing the total number of cases this year to 14, as reported by the agriculture ministry. The latest outbreak was discovered at a cattle farm in Munkyong, approximately 140 kilometers southeast of Seoul.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has issued a 24-hour standstill order affecting personnel and vehicles linked to the farm and related facilities in six neighboring regions. This measure aims to contain the spread of the disease, which is known to severely impact cattle and buffalo.

On Friday, the ministry reported three additional cases in separate locations. In response to the escalating situation, the government plans to deploy all available disinfection vehicles as part of its disease control strategy.

Lumpy skin disease is a highly contagious condition characterized by skin lesions, fever, and loss of appetite, leading to decreased milk production and potentiall
y fatal outcomes. It is primarily spread through mosquitoes and other blood-feeding insects, posing a significant threat to livestock health and the agriculture sector.
