Seoul: The South Korean government announced on Tuesday that it has initiated the groundwork to establish a new presidential committee dedicated to overseeing the country’s bio-related policies, unifying efforts across different agencies. The initiative follows the recent passage of a related law in a Cabinet meeting, setting the stage for the committee, which will be led by the president and aims to collaborate with the private sector to accelerate growth in the bio industry.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the bio industry is increasingly recognized as a transformative force not only in health and medical sectors but also across economic, industrial, energy, environmental, and security domains. In a joint statement, the health, industry, and science ministries emphasized the committee’s role in consolidating and coordinating bio-related policies currently managed by various government agencies, with a vision of progressing towards a bio-economy to enhance the nation’s competitiveness.
The newly proposed
committee will be responsible for formulating visions and strategies for bio-related policies, covering key areas such as healthcare, food, resources, energy, and the environment, as stated by the government.
