ILOILO CITY: A consortium of Taiwanese universities has partnered with the Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) to offer scholarships and career opportunities to Ilonggos. This initiative, part of the 2024 Intense Program Education Exhibition, aims to attract students and professionals interested in pursuing education in Taiwan. The event, held on Saturday, seeks to provide financial aid and industry placements for eligible candidates.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dr. Nemia Mabaquiao, ISAT U’s vice president for external affairs, stated that the participating universities under the Taiwan International Talent Circulation Base – Philippines are targeting a diverse group. This includes graduating students, professionals seeking new opportunities, and even dropouts who are considering further education in Taiwan. While the program prefers candidates from science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and information technology backgrounds, it remains open to applicants from other fields
who demonstrate a willingness to participate.
The scholarship program offers free tuition and allowances to successful candidates. In return, scholars are required to complete two years of service with the sponsoring company, a commitment that comes with compensation. The participating universities include Kun Shan University, Cheng Shiu University, Minghsin University of Science and Technology, Taiwan Steel University of Science and Technology, I-shou University, Providence University, and National Chung Hsing University. These institutions were present at the ISAT U Multipurpose Educational Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Prospective applicants were advised to bring government-issued identification cards, such as a national ID, or to register online. Dr. Mabaquiao emphasized that the sole requirement for securing a scholarship slot is passing the Taiwan English proficiency exam.
