Tansingco Expresses Gratitude to PBBM as BI Tenure Concludes


MANILA – Outgoing Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Norman Tansingco has publicly thanked President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for his tenure as head of the BI, marking two years of leadership that brought significant reforms and faced numerous challenges.



According to Philippines News Agency, Tansingco expressed deep appreciation for the president during his exit statement on Wednesday. He reflected on his term as filled with “optimism, challenges, and determination,” and acknowledged the critical reforms initiated under his leadership. Tansingco’s efforts were particularly focused on tightening border security at international points of entry and exit and enhancing measures to prevent human trafficking.



Tansingco’s statement highlighted the complex nature of managing immigration issues under outdated legislative frameworks, describing the task as “herculean.” He also extended his gratitude towards the personnel and officials of the Department of Justice for their support throughout his tenure. Emphasizing the values of professionalism, integrity, and patriotism, Tansingco commended the dedication of BI staff and encouraged them to remain committed to public service above all else.



In a related development, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has appointed BI Deputy Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado as the officer-in-charge following Tansingco’s departure, signaling a transition in the leadership of the Bureau of Immigration.
