Vientiane: The annual That Luang Festival and 2024 Trade Fair is scheduled to take place from November 11 to 15 in Vientiane, offering a platform for showcasing Lao culture, traditions, and local products. The schedule was announced by Mr. Viengphone Keokhounsy, head of Vientiane’s Department of Information, Culture, and Tourism, during a press conference held on November 5.
According to Lao News Agency, the festival activities will occur at That Luang Square, while the trade fair will be hosted at the Lao-I-Tech shopping center. The event lineup includes an opening ceremony on November 11 at 4:30 p.m., followed by religious activities with prayers and blessings on November 12 and 13. On November 14, a wax castle ceremony will take place at Wat Si Muang, featuring a procession around the Golden Stupa. The festivities will conclude on November 15 with a large almsgiving (tak bat) and a full moon candlelight procession around the stupa.
The event is one of Laos’ most significant religious occasions and will a
lso feature traditional sports as part of its aim to preserve Lao culture. Additionally, the trade fair will promote locally made goods, including products from small and medium-sized enterprises, contributing to economic growth through tourism and local commerce.
