Tigers Pitcher Eric Lauer Eyes Redemption in Korean Series Showdown

DAEGU: Kia Tigers pitcher Eric Lauer, following a challenging performance in the Korean Series, expressed a desire to take the mound again in the championship. Despite the Tigers’ 4-2 loss to the Samsung Lions in Game 3, Lauer remains optimistic about his role in the series.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lauer, a left-hander, allowed two runs on five hits over five innings at Daegu Samsung Lions Park. The Lions capitalized with two solo home runs by Lee Sung-gyu and Kim Young-woong, contributing to the Tigers’ first defeat in the best-of-seven series, which they lead 2-1. The game marked a resurgence for the Lions, who hit four home runs in total.

Reflecting on the game, Lauer noted the skill of the opposing hitters rather than his own shortcomings. “Overall, I felt like I was throwing the ball where I wanted to,” Lauer said. “Sometimes, good hitters just put a good swing on a good pitch.” He mentioned that he understands the hitters’ tendencies better now, compared to his KBO debut against the Lions on
August 11.

Lauer, who joined the Tigers in August as an injury replacement, emphasized his improved strategy. “In the first game, I kind of just came in, and I was reacting to them rather than attacking the hitters,” he explained. Feeling more in control during Game 3, Lauer is eager for another chance, potentially in a Game 6 scenario next Tuesday.

Expressing his enthusiasm for competing in high-pressure games, Lauer stated, “I want to pitch Game 6. I want to pitch as many games as I can.” He quickly adjusted his hopes, acknowledging that a decisive win for the Tigers in five games would be ideal. “In a perfect world we wouldn’t have to even get to Game 6,” Lauer added, highlighting the significance of the upcoming matches.
