Tigers Pitcher Lauer Seeks Redemption Against Lions in Korean Series

GWANGJU: Former major league pitcher Eric Lauer is preparing for a pivotal moment as he seeks redemption in the Korean Series against the Samsung Lions, the team responsible for his challenging debut in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO). Lauer, now with the Kia Tigers, will have the opportunity to face the Lions in Game 3 following a no-decision in his initial matchup against them, which saw him concede seven hits and four earned runs in 3 1/3 innings.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lauer joined the Tigers in August, bringing his major league experience from the San Diego Padres and the Milwaukee Brewers, where he secured 36 wins over six seasons. The Tigers, who achieved the best record in the regular season, bypassed earlier playoff rounds, while the Lions secured their spot in the Korean Series by defeating the LG Twins. Lauer expressed his anticipation for the rematch, emphasizing his improved understanding of KBO hitters and his desire to demonstrate his adjustments since their first encounter.

T
he upcoming game will take place at Daegu Samsung Lions Park, known for being a hitter-friendly environment, where the Lions recently showcased their power by hitting eight home runs in two wins against the Twins. Lauer, aware of the stadium’s characteristics, plans to focus on inducing weak contact from hitters rather than altering his strategy. His signing with the Tigers came after the team released Cam Alldred, and Lauer aims to contribute to the Tigers’ pursuit of their first title since 2017.

Lauer expressed his enthusiasm for joining a competitive team and his commitment to fulfilling his role, stating, “It feels really cool to be able to join a club that was already in such a good spot and to be here for what I was brought here to do. Now, we just go out and finish the job.”
