TMP Pledges P5 Million and Ambulances for Storm Kristine Victims


MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMP) announced a donation of PHP5 million and five ambulances to aid victims of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, also known internationally as Trami, as part of its commitment to support disaster relief efforts in the Philippines.

According to Philippines News Agency, the announcement was made during a presentation at Malacañan Palace in Manila, where TMP showcased its upcoming Next Generation Tamaraw and a hydrogen-powered concept vehicle. Toyota Asia Region CEO Masahiko Maeda expressed condolences to those affected by the storm, emphasizing the company’s support for recovery efforts. “We deeply sympathize with every Filipino who are affected by Kristine and hope for their quick recovery,” Maeda stated.

In addition to the monetary donation, TMP has committed to converting five units of the Next Generation Tamaraw into ambulances for the ‘Lab for All’ Project, an initiative led by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos. The ambulances are slated for delivery to the government
by 2025. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. acknowledged Toyota’s contribution, noting its potential to enhance the delivery of essential medical services across the nation, especially to remote areas.

The Lab for All Project seeks to improve healthcare accessibility by providing mobile vans equipped with advanced medical tools, including X-ray machines, ultrasounds, and portable analyzers. President Marcos also praised Toyota’s broader investments in the country, highlighting a PHP5.5 billion investment in the production of the Philippine-made Tamaraw, which aligns with the administration’s focus on renewable energy and sustainability.

Addressing the broader impacts of natural disasters, President Marcos stressed the importance of adaptability and preparedness in the face of increasing storm frequency and intensity. He lauded the Tamaraw for its versatility and its role in supporting Filipino enterprises, underscoring its local production as a source of national pride.
