Tropical Depression Gener Set to Exit Philippine Area of Responsibility

CORDILLERA REGION – Tropical Depression Gener is currently moving across the Cordillera Region and is anticipated to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) within the next 24 hours, according to the latest updates from the weather authorities.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), weather specialist Veronica Torres reported in a press briefing that Gener is expected to be 500 kilometers west of Dagupan City, Pangasinan after 24 hours and will move further to 925 kilometers west of Northern Luzon after 48 hours. “This movement indicates that Gener is distancing itself from the Philippine land mass,” Torres noted. As of 10 a.m. today, the center of Gener was near Kibungan, Benguet, carrying maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 55 kph, while advancing westward at a speed of 15 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remains in effect for several areas including Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, and various provinces across the Ilocos, Cordillera, and Central Luzon regions. Metro Manila, however, has seen storm signals lifted. Areas under Signal No. 1 may experience minimal to minor impacts due to strong winds.

Gener, together with the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat), is expected to bring heavy to intense rains (100-200 mm) across the northern and western provinces including Cagayan, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte, among others. Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rainfall (50-100 mm) is projected over other parts of Cordillera, the Cagayan Valley, and nearby regions. The enhanced monsoon, also influenced by Tropical Storm Pulasan outside PAR, is likely to produce strong to gale-force gusts particularly in the coastal and highland areas of Batanes, Mimaropa, Bicol Regions, Visayas, and Mindanao.
