Turkey’s Potential BRICS Membership Heralded as Boon for Global Peace by Parliament Speaker

ANKARA — Turkey’s potential induction into BRICS could serve as a significant boost for global peace and cooperation, according to Numan Kurtulmus, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, in a recent interview.

According to Philippines News Agency, Kurtulmus highlighted Turkey’s unique role in international affairs, noting its involvement in various cooperative organizations such as the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and NATO, among others. He expressed that Turkey’s inclusion in BRICS would not only enhance its diplomatic toolkit but also bolster global peace in a multipolar world system.

Kurtulmus emphasized Turkey’s strategic geographic position as a bridge between East and West, its rich cultural heritage, and its evolving role as a significant regional and global actor. He argued that joining BRICS, which he views as a crucial part of the future global system, would expand Turkey’s foreign policy capabilities rather than restrict them, providing new avenues for international cooperation and stability.

The Speaker’s remarks underscore Turkey’s desire to develop alternative foreign policy instruments and its readiness to contribute more robustly to global peace efforts through enhanced participation in international organizations.
