LEGAZPI CITY: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 5 (Bicol) has provided PHP4.9 million in support to individually displaced persons (IDPs) affected by typhoons/storm Enteng, Kristine, Nika, and Pepito in Jose Panganiban town in Camarines Norte.

According to Philippines News Agency, DSWD-5 director Norman Laurio mentioned in an interview that the comprehensive recovery effort of its Livelihood Settlement Grant (LSG) distribution, under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), benefited 245 fisherfolk and farmers in coastal and catch-basin areas in the province. “Each beneficiary received PHP20,000 to help rehabilitate their livelihood, which the series of weather disturbances had severely impacted,” Laurio stated.

Laurio emphasized the importance of collaboration with local government units (LGUs) to ensure a successful recovery process. “The role of LGUs in the recovery phase is critical. Their local knowledge and support enhance DSWD’s programs, enabling communities to rebuild their
lives more effectively. Together, we can overcome these challenges and create a more resilient future,” he added.

The director also explained that through the LSG, the agency has allocated PHP10 million with the aim of empowering beneficiaries to restore their primary sources of income, thus paving the way for sustainable recovery for affected families. “The agency reaffirms its commitment to supporting typhoon-affected communities. Through timely, targeted interventions, DSWD-5 remains resolute in its mission to assist those most in need, helping to foster resilience and long-term recovery,” Laurio said.

Ongoing validation is being conducted on individuals and groups severely affected in Catanduanes, Albay, and Camarines Sur for the same grant. In a statement, Jose Panganiban Mayor Ariel Non expressed gratitude for the agency’s direct involvement in both relief efforts and recovery initiatives. “Alam natin na talagang mahirap bumangon kung wala namang kapital na maaaring gamitin sa muling pag-umpisa. Kung
kaya andito ang DSWD, handang umalalay sa mga taong gusto talagang makabangon muli sa buhay (We know that it is really hard to get up and running without capital that can be used to start over. That’s why the DSWD is here, ready to support people who really want to get back on their feet in life),” he said.
