Villanueva Endorses Dela Rosa and Go as Key Figures in Drug War Probe

MANILA: Senator Joel Villanueva expressed support for the participation of his colleagues, Senators Ronald Dela Rosa and Christopher Go, in the Senate hearings examining the Duterte administration’s war on drugs. Villanueva emphasized their critical roles during the campaign, making their input valuable to the investigation.

According to Philippines News Agency, Villanueva highlighted in a virtual press briefing that both Dela Rosa and Go held significant positions during the drug war. Dela Rosa served as the Philippine National Police chief, while Go was the special assistant to then-President Rodrigo R. Duterte. Villanueva noted that their participation as resource persons would be relevant, given the accusations against them and their involvement in the campaign.

Villanueva stated that he would refrain from questioning unless there was a need to verify specific details, particularly concerning Dela Rosa’s role as PNP chief during the drug war. He saw no issue with their dual roles as resource persons and
senators, asserting that their insights could benefit the investigation.

Villanueva also confirmed his appointment as the vice chair of the Senate Blue Ribbon subcommittee, which will spearhead the investigation starting October 28. Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel III is set to chair the subcommittee.

Dela Rosa has publicly welcomed the opportunity to address questions and clarify accusations. In a recent phone interview, he expressed readiness to serve as a resource person, inviting inquiries from his colleagues. Dela Rosa maintained that he has no regrets about his actions as PNP chief, advocating for a stringent approach to combat the illegal drug trade.

“Given the chance to do it again, I will do it again,” Dela Rosa stated, reaffirming his commitment to the methods employed during the campaign.
