Seoul: President Yoon Suk Yeol is set to deliver a public address this Thursday, where he will unveil his policy vision and tackle multiple controversies, as reported by the presidential office and various sources on Monday. This address marks the midpoint of Yoon’s single five-year term and will be accompanied by a press conference.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the president is expected to outline his policy vision for the latter half of his term and introduce measures to reform his administration. The press conference will also serve as a platform for Yoon to confront a series of escalating controversies. These include allegations of interference by Yoon and First Lady Kim Keon Hee in the ruling party’s election candidate nomination process, in addition to scandals involving the First Lady.
The leader of the ruling party, Han Dong-hoon, has called for Yoon to publicly apologize and reorganize his aides at the presidential office. This plea comes amidst a burgeoning scandal over alleged interference in
the party’s nomination of a candidate for the 2022 parliamentary by-elections, ignited by a recorded phone conversation between Yoon and a suspected power broker, Myung Tae-kyun.
This press conference is taking place as Yoon’s approval rating has plunged to a new low of 19 percent in a recent poll. A presidential official stated, “Reaching the midpoint of his term, (Yoon) will inform the public about past achievements as well as the future direction of his administration.”
